How to Play
The goal
The grid has 3 rows and 3 columns. Every row and column is a category, for example a team, a position, an award or a college. Fill each of the 9 squares with a player who matches both its row and its column.
Guesses
You get 9 guesses in total. A wrong guess still uses one up. Each player can only be used once per grid. Type at least two letters to search; the years or birth year next to each name help you pick the right person when two players share a name.
What counts
- Teams: the player appeared on that franchise's roster at any time. Relocated franchises count as the current team (for example Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders).
- Position: the player's main listed position.
- Awards (basketball): the player won the award at least once.
- Draft (football): first-round pick or undrafted.
- College: the player attended that school.
Rarity
After a correct answer you see a rarity percentage: 100 divided by the number of valid players for that square. Picking a player in a square with few possible answers shows a higher number.
Daily, archive and unlimited
A new NBA grid and NFL grid start every day at midnight your local time. Your streak counts consecutive days you finish today's grid. Missed a day? Use the archive. Want more? Unlimited mode creates random grids, each square guaranteed to have at least 3 valid answers.
